The office of an entrepreneur isn’t complete without the things that help them reach peak productivity—and we’re not talking about a desk and computer.
That’s why we asked six entrepreneurs from FounderSociety the following question:
Q. Besides the items you need to accomplish daily tasks, what’s one thing you always keep in your office and why?
1. Headphones
There are times for collaboration, then there are times when you just have to knuckle down and work. Listening to music can give you some mental space and cut out the noise of those around you. Having your headphones in also makes people less likely to interrupt you. Make sure that your playlist suits what you are trying to do. Then jack in, disconnect from the world around you, and get things done. —Ben Gamble, Quincus
2. A Small Whiteboard
I set aside time every Monday morning to write down all of the things I want to accomplish for the week on a small whiteboard in front of my desk—visible to the entire office. I then cross things off as I do them with the goal of getting everything done by Friday. It’s a form of accountability to myself and my team that I find incredibly effective. —Lisa Curtis, Kuli Kuli
3. Games and Drinks
Being a B2B client-facing business in the creative industry, sometimes we need a break to brainstorm ideas. To break the monotony and keep things fun, we keep a Nerf basketball hoop in the office as well as a well-stocked fridge. Every now and then, clients and others stop by our office too, just for the fun and drinks. —Steven Newlon, SYN3RGY Creative Group
4. Water and Snacks
Being hungry can lead to more irrational and impulsive decisions. That’s why I keep water and snacks close to me so that I can make the best decisions possible, even when I’m in a time crunch. Staying hydrated and full is imperative to help me continue to think clearly. —Jessica Baker, Aligned Signs
5. Coffee
Coffee is the No. 1 necessity in my office. It not only helps my employees stay awake, but it’s a great reason for us to gather and take a break. —Ajmal Saleem, Suprex Learning
6. Family Photos
Family is everything to me—it’s my inspiration, motivation, and catalyst for creativity. If you’re like me, keeping family photos in your office will help you work towards your goals better than any to-do list ever could. Keep them close, and you will see a huge change in your productivity and mood at the office. —Robert Gerov, Vokseo
